1. Sales & Marketing Internship

Seeking enthusiastic interns! Do you envision a future in sales in the music industry? Would you enjoy seeing how Christian music is marketed in retail stores around the country? The Sales and Marketing internship may be the one for you. Our department doesn’t just get product to stores across the nation; we focus on helping stores sell better. Share your semester with us and learn ways to support retailers with promotions, deals, and creative new methods. You will have real hands-on business experience and make contacts that will prepare you for a career in the music industry. You will assist in creating marketing promotions, facilitating information to sales representatives and retailers, as well as helping with marketing programs that are directed to store front-liners and youth pastors. You’ll help keep websites updated and apply your creativity to making them better. You will also focus on helping to grow our social networking pages on Facebook and Twitter. You’ll gather publishing information for samplers and help us compile information to be used for retailer and youth pastor programs. You’ll help with artist events involving the sales team, and prepare for industry events that occur during your internship.

Requirements:
We’re looking for someone who is motivated and has a good attitude, is comfortable working in a group and alone, and has strong communication skills. If you’re the kind of person who enjoys having a project of your own, which gives you some room for independence and plenty of chance to shine, this is a great internship for you. You should be organized, prompt, and professional at all times—but you should be an outgoing and creative people person, too! Because you’re involved in some writing, you need to have excellent verbal and written communication skills. Your class status should be junior or senior, and the internship’s unpaid and for academic credit only, so you’ll have to prove you’re in school. Our interns work 3 days per week (15-18 hours per week).

2. Mainstream/Christian/International Sales & Marketing

As the title of this internship suggests, ours is a very diverse division of Provident Label Group. In our department, we help take our artists’ music to Christian retailers, mainstream retailers, and to distributors across the globe. If you have ever wondered how a CD ends up on a certain store shelf, of if you’re interested in how all the pieces come together between record labels and stores, this is a great internship for you. Plus, if you’re the type of person who daydreams about visiting the Swiss Alps, relaxing on the beautiful beaches of the Caribbean, or surfing the coast of South Africa or Australia… well, you won’t visit these places in person as our intern, but you will gain a new perspective on the people--and business practices--of the global market.

Here are some of the things our interns do:
  • Participate in staff meetings and observe the inner workings of how and why certain decisions are made with mainstream retail accounts (Wal-Mart, Best Buy, Target, etc.) and Christian retailers (Lifeway, Berea, Family Christian, etc.).
  • Assist in being the liaison between our different accounts and the Provident labels. Interact with many of the departments within the distribution company--marketing, production, the label group, and business affairs.
  • Enter artist tour schedules, radio information, and label updates in the Sony mainstream systems.
  • Participate in weekly phone calls to distributed labels.
  • Help assemble information to better sell distributed artists.
  • Sit in on biweekly label meetings held with Provident’s distribution company.
  • Gain insight into relationships with Sony International affiliates.
  • Facilitate the sharing and distribution of information to our business partners across the world.
  • Maintain our database of CD masters, create reports, and assist with special research projects.
  • Help with events: overseas sales presentations, artist interviews during GMA week, and preparation for industry conventions.
It’s entirely possible that you’ll attend concerts featuring label artists, assist in special projects, and much, much more. While there is some clerical work involved in every position, we strive to make your time here not only a valuable learning experience, but also a fun and interesting insight to the sales aspect of the music industry.

Requirements:
First and foremost, we are looking for someone who is a self-motivated, eager learner. Our interns work from 10 - 20 hours per week. We’re looking for someone who is comfortable working independently on a project after being given guidelines. You need to have great attention to detail, as well as a good attitude. You should be familiar with a computer, and you’ve got to have excellent written and verbal communication skills. Most importantly, we’re seeking interns who are fascinated with how our side of the industry works. If this describes you perfectly, come share your semester with us!

3. Essential/Reunion/Flicker Records Internship: Marketing and Event Planning

Why should you intern at Provident Label Group? Because just like caffeine in your coffee, daily doses of music is one of life’s necessities. Interning at PLG gives you the chance to work closely with our team to market our artists to the masses. This includes the basics:
  • Participating in staff meetings and learning the inner workings of a label
  • Taking personal initiative and using online outlets to continue communicating with consumers about our artists
  • Assembling press mailings and helping with daily mailing
  • Maintaining stock levels of all PLG product
  • Creating reports using SoundScan and radio data
  • Helping with event planning and implementation; this internship will allow a student to see and assist with some label promotional events (mainly during GMA Week) and several staff (internal) events from start to finish
...as well as anything else that might come up, like helping with a photo/video shoot, attending showcases, helping build cardboard robots… you get the idea. You’ll assist the marketing team at whatever projects we have going on. Of course, there will occasionally be some less-than-exciting clerical tasks, like processing mailings of marketing tools and burning CDs, but we do strive for this to be a valuable learning experience for you. This is a fast-paced department, so be ready for a whirlwind of activity and fun!
Requirements:
What kind of people intern at Provident Label Group? You, if you’re a motivated person who can think quickly on your feet, communicate well, and take initiative when you see something that needs to be done. You should be comfortable around a computer, too. You should be available to work at least 25 hours per week and have a somewhat flexible schedule to assist with events as needed. And of course, interns must be students enrolled in a college or university.

4. Promotions Internship

If you have a song stuck in your head after listening to the radio, you can blame it on any number of national promotions teams working for record labels all over the country. It’s up to the National Promotions team at Provident Music Group to implement radio campaigns for the newest and hottest radio singles impacting Christian radio. This internship provides the opportunity to participate in record label marketing meetings and observe how marketing plans are developed and put to use so our artists gain coveted radio exposure. Here are some of the things our interns do:
  • Design promotional flyers and emails
  • Keep abreast of charting of Christian radio singles
  • Read radio trade magazines
  • Sit in on promoters’ calls to radio stations
  • Learn about the planning of tour promotions
  • Help with general clerical duties as needed
If you’re selected for this internship, you will also work on special research projects and help devise scripts as needed. You will also prepare for special events that occur during your internship, including Gospel Music Association Week, CBA week, and radio seminars by assembling promotional giveaways. At times, you will be able to attend concerts featuring label artists and participate in special celebrations for singles that top charts and records that reach Platinum and Gold status.
Requirements:
Promoters are personable, savvy, and creative entrepreneurs. Not only are they selling a product (a single) to radio program directors, they’re selling themselves as a credible source for providing something worthwhile for their clientele. Thus, it’s important that you possess excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills. You must be a proactive problem-solver. You need to be available to work 10-20 hours per week, preferably with some availability on Monday afternoons for departmental staff meetings. Because interns are unpaid and for academic credit only, you will have to submit proof you’re enrolled in an accredited college or university before you can be selected.

5. Publicity Internship

Do you dream of being a publicist one day? Or maybe you’ve got great writing skills and want to learn about PR in the Christian music industry? The Publicity internship might be the perfect fit for you! Work with the publicity team to position our artists in magazines and other media outlets. Participate in record label marketing meetings and observe how marketing plans are developed and implemented. Prepare for special events that occur during internship, including Gospel Music Week, ICRS, press conferences, photo shoots and interviews by assembling press kits and promotional giveaways. Oversee clerical duties. Possibly attend concerts featuring label artists. Participate in special celebrations for Platinum and Gold selling records. Prepare artist press releases.
Requirements:
Because there’s some writing and interaction with people both inside and outside Provident, you need to have excellent communication skills. We prefer students majoring in Marketing, Communications, English or Public Relations. We’re also looking for someone who isn’t afraid to work individually on a project and who’s enthusiastic about learning what we do. You need to be familiar with Microsoft Word & Excel. You should be available to work at least 15 hours per week.
